Walnut
This wood species has a color variation from rich, dark brown to black with purple undertones. Walnut also features attractive blonde sapwood streaks within the darker tones, and it generally has a straight grain with occasional waves or curls.

Warp
A condition that exists when an object is twisted out of shape.
Water-Repellent Preservatives
A formulation of chemical which retards the absorption of liquid water and which inhibits decay and stain in wood. It is commonly used on exterior wood components.
Waterglass
This type of glass features a texture that resembles ripples.
Weatherstrip
Variously shaped metal, vinyl, plastic or molded fiber strips that fit tightly against the window or door frame parts to prevent air infiltration through cracks. Cold air entering the house in winter can account for up to 35% of the heating load. Weatherstripping can reduce the load to 20%.
Weave glass
This textured glass features a grid of embossed squares. It offers a very obscure view.
Weep Hole
The visible exit or entry part of a water drainage system used to drain water out of a window or patio door.

The method by which glass is set and sealed into a sash or window opening with a semiliquid compound usually clear in color (sealant).

Window Casing
May be interior or exterior; an exterior window casing is most commonly installed on window frames for wood sided exterior walls.
Window Frame
A group of wood parts machined and assembled to form an enclosure and support for a sash.
Window Jamb
The upper horizontal and vertical frame members that house the window sash. Jambs may be classified as head or side jambs.
Window Unit
A combination of the frame, sash, weatherstripping, sash opening mechanism and, at the option of the manufacturer, screens and/or storm sash assembled as a complete and properly operating unit.
Wire-brushed
This rustic surface texture for wood doors is achieved by running the wood through a wire brushing wheel (in the direction of the grain). This process tears random width and depth grooves into the wood for a randomly, rough, raised-grain appearance.
Wood Composite
A wood-based compound utilizing wood fibers, reconstituted wood or other wood derivative.
Wood Operator Cover Trim
A wood trim which conceals the operating hardware on a wood casement or awning window.
