Oak
The northern red oak we use is known for its dramatically pronounced grain pattern, which varies from a tight, vertical grain to a beautifully arched pattern. It may also feature pin knots and mineral streaks. The color range includes light straw and honey with a light pink hue. Oak accepts stains very well.
Obscure glass
This is any type of decorative textured glass that fully or partially obscures the view. It allows for privacy while still letting light enter a home.
Ogee casing
Ogee casing uses a series of quarter- circle and cove profiles.
Open-stud installation
This type of wall framing is not covered by sheathing, and the window is mounted directly to the framing members. It is typically used with traditional stucco exteriors.
Operating Sash
An assembly comprised of stiles (vertical pieces), rails (horizontal pieces), and a window’s glass that opens and closes.
Operator
The hardware mechanism used to open and close a window, excluding the hinges.
Operator cover
This is the wood cover at the bottom of an operating casement window that covers the mechanical operator of the window.
Operator Track
The metal track at the bottom of the sash where the roller on the end of the operator arm slides to open and close the sash.

Out-swinging
This refers to patio doors that swing toward the outside of a home.
Outboard glass
Outboard glass is the exterior lite of a multi-paned insulating glass unit.
Over/Under Shim
When the side jamb bows in or out because of excessive or insufficient shim material used between the window or door frame and the rough opening during installation.
Ovolo
A convex profile; usually a quarter section of a circle, as in the profile of quarter-round.
OX
From the outside looking in for sliding fenestration products, the O represents the fixed sash and X represents the operating sash.
