Nailing fin
This is a metal or plastic flange that’s inserted into or an integral part of the head, jambs and sill of window units. Commonly used for new construction installations, this is used to secure windows or doors to an opening.

The NFRC is an independent third-party certification organization with industry-accepted standards for evaluating and certifying energy performance. The NFRC Certificate contains U-factor, SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient), and VT (Visible Transmittance) values. These values form the basis for the ENERGY STAR® Door and Window Program.

The former name of the Association of Millwork Distributors, a trade organization of window, door and millwork distributors.
Net dimension (Net OSM)
This is the overall frame dimension of a window or door product.
New construction window
This refers to a window installed at the time of original construction.
Newel
A newel is the main post at the start of a staircase and the stiffening post at the landing.
No-bore
A no-bore door does not include cavities to fit a door knob, handle, lockset or other hardware.
Non-Removable Operator Cover
A fixed cover which conceals the operating hardware on a casement or awning window.
Non-sashed
A window that does not include an operating sash. Instead, the glass is attached directly into the jamb (also called direct set).
Notice of acceptance reports (NOAs)
This is a report issued by the Miami-Dade County authorizing products to be used in hurricane zones.
