Impact-resistant glass
This type of glass is constructed with a durable, bonded interlayer to resist impacts and remain in place and intact during a storm to help preserve the building envelope (the roof and walls). A product must be tested to specific standards to be considered impact-resistant.
ImpactGard® protection
This feature for JELD-WEN windows includes glass that offers impact-resistance from wind-borne debris; forced-entry resistance; increased UV protection; and decreased sound transmission. It also comes with a 10-year warranty. Learn more
In-swinging
This refers to patio doors that swing toward the inside of a home.
Inboard glass
The interior lite of a multi-paned insulating glass unit.
Inner Casing
An entrance member that fits over the outside edges of the side and head jambs, thereby providing a base for the pilasters; an entrance casing nearest to the opening that provides a base for the pilasters.
Inner Frame
On a panel door, the intermediate panel member between the stile and door panel that accentuates the sticking of the door.
Installation flange
See nailing flange.
Insulating Glass Certification Council (IGCC)
This nonprofit organization sponsors and directs an independent, true third-party certification program for insulated glass.
Insulating Glass Unit
A sealed assembly of two or more panes of glass separated by a spacer. Manufacturing of insulating glass began in 1930.
Integral deadbolt
This type of lock has the locking cylinder within the knob.
Integral nailing fin
An integral nailing fin allows for window installations that are faster, easier and more secure. As an integral part of the frame, it also offers increased strength and stability.
Integrated sash
This is a sash unit in which the insulating glass spacer profiles are integrated into the sash profiles. Separate IG construction is eliminated as the two lites of glass are applied and sealed directly to the sash, creating one assembly.
Intercept spacer
See warm edge technology.
Interior Casing
A casing that trims the interior of window and door frames.
Interlock
An interlock on a window or door provides a hooking action between the sash rail and the sill or jamb. This action reduces air infiltration and increases security.
Intermediate Rail
A rail of a door located between the top and bottom rails.
