JELD-WEN Becomes Proud Partner of THE PLAYERS Championship
Window & Door Maker Enters Six-Year Partnership Beginning in 2007
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. July 10, 2006 In an exclusive agreement with the PGA TOUR, JELD-WEN, the world’s leading manufacturer of reliable windows and doors, will become a Proud Partner of THE PLAYERS Championship beginning in 2007. The six-year partnership marks JELD-WEN’s largest investment in professional golf to date and places the company’s brand name on par with some of the most recognizable corporations in the United States.
The announcement was made today by PGA TOUR Commissioner Tim Finchem and Doug Kintzinger, executive vice president and CFO of JELD-WEN.
“We are extremely pleased to announce that JELD-WEN will be expanding its involvement with the PGA TOUR to become one of only three Proud Partners of THE PLAYERS Championship, joining two other prestigious companies in PriceWaterhouseCoopers and UBS,” Finchem said. “Since 2003, JELD-WEN has been title sponsor of the JELD-WEN Tradition, one of the Champions Tour’s major championships. Now it will have significant involvement with our own championship on the PGA TOUR. Together, these Proud Partners will further enhance the stature of THE PLAYERS as one of the most significant tournaments in golf and help it to continue generating significant dollars for charity.”
In addition to the JELD-WEN Tradition in Oregon, JELD-WEN will now support an East Coast tournament with large national and international audiences. As a Proud Partner of THE PLAYERS, JELD-WEN will receive network television advertising on the Golf Channel and NBC; Web, print and on-site recognition; naming of a new clubhouse room at TPC Sawgrass; and on-course hospitality privileges.
“We have met with great success in using golf as a platform to reach key audiences, enhance customer relationships and recognize employees,” Kintzinger said. “Supporting an event of this caliber opens up a whole new range of opportunities for a global company like JELD-WEN. This is a perfect complement to our existing support of the Champions Tour.”
THE PLAYERS claims a unique place in the season schedule – and in the minds of golf fans – because the tournament is the PGA TOUR’s own championship for its members. This international event attracts top players and traditionally boasts the strongest field, top to bottom, of the year. In regard to the field, the PGA TOUR Policy Board has approved the addition of two players beginning in 2007: the previous year’s leading money winner on the Nationwide Tour, and the reigning Ford Senior Players champion (Constellation Energy becomes the new title sponsor next year).
JELD-WEN, based in Klamath Falls, Ore., has made an increasing investment in professional golf during the last three years. In addition to bringing professional golf to Oregon with the JELD-WEN Tradition, the manufacturer is also the official window, door and millwork provider of the PGA TOUR and Champions Tour. It also sponsors professional golfers and Oregon natives Peter Jacobsen and Ben Crane.
“We have a tremendous amount of respect for the PGA TOUR brand and wanted to align JELD-WEN with it in a very exclusive way,” Kintzinger said. “When the opportunity to get involved in THE PLAYERS Championship became available, it fit well within our strategy for partnering with professional golf.”
Next year, THE PLAYERS will take place during the second week of May at its traditional but newly renovated home, TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. The Stadium Course is closed until November as it undergoes significant infrastructural work and a brand-new clubhouse is currently under construction and scheduled to be ready by tournament week. David Pillsbury, president of PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, said yesterday that JELD-WEN will be supplying the doors and windows for the clubhouse.
