Homeowners Want Functional Room For Computer Use
JELD-WEN sound and glare reducing products shape practical home office space
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. January 08, 2008 Taking its rightful place alongside other household essentials such as televisions and washer/dryers, the personal computer has finally earned a room of its own.
That’s according to the results of the new JELD-WEN Real Estate Agent Community Trends (REACT) survey, which asked agents across the country what types of rooms their clients would want for a new home. Overwhelmingly, 93 percent said their buyers desired computer room/home office space. A home theater, a popular trend with the advent of flat screen and projection televisions, was the second most popular choice at 44 percent.
As it continues to become more of a staple in everyday life, the computer needs a space free from distraction that the entire family can access easily. Whether for reducing glare, blocking sound or just a little extra privacy, JELD-WEN offers suggestions to help homeowners design a room that will make their computer time more productive and enjoyable.
Block the Glare Staring at a computer monitor all day can be hard on the eyes. Prolonged computer gazing or squinting to avoid glare is known to cause blurry vision, fatigue, headaches and even neck pain. It can also slow productivity.
Window size and type of glass are two main factors in determining the intensity of the sunlight glare that can overpower a room. JELD-WEN offers windows with a variety of glass options to protect against the blinding sun and prevent unnecessary screen glare.
“Our vinyl windows with Low-E or tinted glass are ideal for blocking extreme direct sunlight that can harm computers and other electrical equipment,” said Brian Hedlund, JELD-WEN window marketing manager. “Windows featuring this glass also shade against harsh sunlight that can cause heavy glare and fade interior furnishings over time. Obscure glass is another option for filtering some of the extreme direct sunlight while providing extra privacy.”
Keep it Quiet A home office offers privacy and the ability to concentrate without distraction. JELD-WEN? Custom Carved interior doors are manufactured to provide superior noise reduction, giving computer users a little extra solitude.
“When used in a computer room, the custom carved doors help reduce sound,” said Elizabeth Souders, JELD-WEN door marketing manager. “When compared to flush hollow-core doors, JELD-WEN Custom Carved doors can block up to 50 percent more everyday noise that can interrupt productivity or relaxation. With more than 100 standard designs, panel choices and raised moulding, as well as the option to create something completely original, the door coordinates with most any space.”
Peace of Mind For homeowners who don’t want to shut off their computer room from the rest of the home, interior French doors with glass allow light into the room while also allowing parents to pay closer attention to their children’s activity on the computer.
“JELD-WEN Interior French doors add a unique element to any room with a variety of design and glass options,” said Souders.
Media note: The results of the entire JELD-WEN Real Estate Agent Community Trends (REACT) survey will be unveiled at the 2008 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla., Feb. 13.
