Homeowners discover benefits of using high-quality faux building materials that save time and money over the long term

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. December 10, 2007 — It has been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. So when it comes to selecting the right home improvement materials, more homeowners are discovering they can achieve fabulous looks by going faux.

As discovered in a recent study presented by the National Association of Home Builders, more than half of the U.S homeowners have made some recent renovations. Today, as that number continues to rise, more builders and homeowners are turning to synthetic products that will hold up to the wear and tear that time and environmental factors can cause.

Entry doors may be the most dramatic example of just how far faux has gone. While many homeowners desire the classic appeal of a wood door, they don’t want the necessary upkeep. JELD-WEN® IWP® Custom Fiberglass doors look almost exactly like wood and are built to age gracefully.

“Our fiberglass exterior doors are easier to maintain in any climate and act as better insulators than their wooden counterparts,” said Elizabeth Souders, JELD-WEN product marketing manager. “They are also more resistant to dents, warp and decay and have less chance of cracking over time.”

Faux can even be found in today’s well-heeled garages. JELD-WEN® Wood Composite garage doors combine the strength of steel with the resiliency of wood. The materials are used to replicate wood’s beauty without the cost, maintenance hassles and potential problems such as rusting and denting.

“Garage doors are one of the most important features of today’s homes and with so many imitation products flooding the market, it’s important to know what to look for,” Souders said. “Good faux materials will not only resemble their original counterpart, but require virtually no maintenance.”

While many homeowners and builders feel that nothing can improve upon traditional materials, more and more are discovering high-quality faux is giving them a good run for their money.
