JELD-WEN’s Saxton Invited to Attend White House ‘Jobs Summit’
Klamath Falls, Ore. December 02, 2009 Ron Saxton, JELD-WEN Executive VP, has been invited to attend President Obama’s “Jobs Summit” at the White House on Thursday, December 3. The Summit will involve about 130 people from around the country, primarily business and labor leaders. The forum’s objective is to discuss ways to bolster American jobs.
“I am looking forward to discussing policies and strategies that will increase prospects for private sector jobs,” stated Saxton. “I’m proud of how JELD-WEN has responded to opportunities like the replacement window Federal tax credit and we are confident that there is more that can be done. As a member of the Window & Door Manufacturers Association, I hope to provide our industry with a voice on the issue of jobs.”
“In U.S. homes today there are more than one billion single pane windows that unnecessarily increase homeowners’ and renters’ utility bills every month,” explained Saxton. “Incentives to upgrade to energy-saving models could result in putting Americans back to work in engineering, manufacturing, distribution and installation while reducing greenhouse gas emissions caused by inefficient residential structures.”
“As an industry, we must demonstrate a strong interest and be proactive in how policies in Washington are crafted,” he said. “Most window and door manufacturers’ components are sourced from within the U.S. – whether it’s glass, wood parts or vinyl extrusions – and the installation, of course, is handled by localized skilled labor. So the window and door industry generates an enormous multiplication effect when there is healthy demand for our products.”
