A Louisiana lighthouse rebuilding after complete destruction has won the 2008 JELD-WEN Reliable Lighthouse Restoration Initiative for its compelling need and example of unwavering hope.
New Canal Lighthouse in New Orleans, built in 1890, was heavily damaged after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005.
The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation is planning to reconstruct New Canal in 2009 as an aid to navigation, historic museum and environmental education center.
Reliable JELD-WEN custom
wood windows and
fiberglass doors designed to look like the originals, yet built stronger to last longer, will help restore its historic past.
