Buying Guide: Interior Doors

Learn_BuyingGuide_IDYou have many different options and products to consider when building, updating or remodeling your home. Paint, flooring, fixtures, window coverings and cabinets, just to name a few. But little has more impact than interior doors. Where to get started on making a decision with this many choices can be challenging.  So we created this guide to help you see the possibilities that are out there.

Type

The whole feeling of a room can change based on the interior doors you choose. Open up the sense of space within a room with a mirror door. Or add natural light to a room with glass panel or French doors. And remember that closet doors, bifold doors and pocket doors can be changed to complete your transformation.

  • Bypass Doors - Also known as sliding doors, these doors have two or more segments that can slide past each other. Bypass doors are typically designed to be used in closets, but can also be used to divide rooms.
  • Bifold Doors - These doors are often used to cover a broad space where a straight door’s swing would be too wide. These interior doors combine the actions of both hinged and slider doors.
  • Pocket Door - This is a sliding door that disappears into the wall when not in use. It’s perfect for places where there’s no space for a door to swing, such as a bathroom. Pocket doors are also desirable for smaller homes, due to space savings.

Just like windows and exterior doors, today’s interior doors are available in an incredible variety of designs. From the basic to the ornate, you can find one for any taste or budget.

Material

With all the choices, deciding on your interior doors may harder than it sounds. There are hundreds of designs in wood and wood composite, with hardware options to create a package that truly completes your home. Here are a few of the styles of interior doors you can choose.

  • Hollow Core - The most popular choice for homeowners. Hollow core doors are available in a range of versatile designs to complement a variety of architectural styles.
  • Solid Core - These sturdy doors offer a high-end feel to your home. Solid core interior doors can be made of fiberglass, wood, or even wood composite that can coordinate with cabinetry and other furnishings in your home.

Options

You can add beauty and meaning to every detail of your new doors, each one providing an enormous difference in your home. Like the doors themselves, these options carry your style throughout. Their presence is small, but their impact is huge. These choices include:

  • Hardware
  • Mirror
  • Finishes
  • Hinges
  • Trim
  • Doorstops and other accessories

We hope this guide has been helpful. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.  We’ll be happy to answer any interior door questions you may have.
