JELD-WEN Introduces Industry's First Online Tool Designed to Select, Track and Document Environmentally Friendly Products
Builders, architects, and homeowners interested in green certification can now tap valuable new resource
October 29, 2010

JELD-WEN GreenDoc helps select, track and document products that contribute to major green rating system certification
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - It’s a dilemma that many builders, architects and homeowners interested in sustainable building design continually face – it’s one thing to say you’re building green, it’s an entirely different and time-consuming challenge to be able to prove it.
That’s why JELD-WEN has introduced an innovative new online tool created to solve these issues quickly and easily. Called GreenDoc and found on www.jeld-wen.com, this free solution allows users to evaluate the company’s products against any of the major green building rating systems such as LEED, National Green Building Standard, Green Globes and others. It performs the necessary product calculations required by these programs to determine exactly how selected JELD-WEN products contribute to certification. Better yet, GreenDoc generates clear, specific documentation that these programs require for substantiation – a first for the industry.
“Anyone familiar with building green knows the incredible amount of work it takes to figure out which products contribute toward credits and how to compile the detailed documentation required,” said Jay DeKalb, JELD-WEN technical product manager. “This tool makes it simple and straightforward.”
JELD-WEN’s GreenDoc system factors in environmentally preferred product attributes, including energy efficiency, recycled content, no-added-formaldehyde (NAF) compliance, durability and more. Not only does GreenDoc perform the product calculations required by green building rating systems, it also reveals whether the product has other green advantages, such as made-in-the-U.S., termite resistance or promoting better indoor air quality.
All of this critical information is served up in a PDF document that can be printed and saved for certification submission. The GreenDoc tool is a key feature in JELD-WEN’s new high-performance website in the Pro Center section at www.jeld-wen.com. Users simply need to follow an easy three-step process:
- Select products for evaluation
- Evaluate products against a rating system(s) of your choice
- Print the documentation on JELD-WEN letterhead for spec submission
“Whether you’re interested in certification or simply want to choose environmentally preferred products, this tool provides some great benefits,” said DeKalb. “It’s accessible anytime, you can save multiple projects and it makes the project documentation very simple. It also provides always-up-to-date credits, definitions and calculations for each program.”
