JELD-WEN® Custom Wood Windows & Patio Doors Now Offered With FSC® Certification

The Protection of AuraLast® Wood Is Included Standard in JELD-WEN’s Certified Options

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.—JELD-WEN recently achieved Forest Stewardship Council^™ (FSC^®) certification for Custom Wood windows and patio doors manufactured in Pine at its Bend, Oregon facility. Accredited by FSC, the Rainforest Alliance granted JELD-WEN a multisite certificate, which demonstrates to customers that JELD-WEN uses responsibly produced Pine.

This certification expands JELD-WEN’s recognition from third parties for its use of certified sources of wood. For several years, each of JELD-WEN’s wood window manufacturing facilities have been chain of custody certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), allowing those plants to apply the SFI label to their Pine windows and patio doors. Today with FSC certification, JELD-WEN’s Bend, Oregon window facility is dual certified and gives customers greater flexibility to earn credits in national building-certification programs such as LEED, Green Globes or the National Green Building Standard. Combined, the two standards certify approximately 230 million acres of North American forestland.

AuraLast^® Wood Is Standard with Both Certified Wood Window Options

In field testing, AuraLast Pine window components outlasted other wood used in the test structure. Now, JELD-WEN Custom wood windows made with AuraLast Pine are available with the FSC label.

Since 2003, JELD-WEN Custom Wood windows and patio doors have come standard with AuraLast wood, which has two environmental benefits in addition to its third-party wood certification: durability and fewer VOCs during production.

• AuraLast is a proprietary vacuum-pressure process that distributes the active ingredients into the core of the wood for virtually 100 percent surface-to-core protection. In laboratory and field tests, AuraLast wood lasted longer than conventionally treated and untreated wood components. Durability is a critical aspect in sustainable building design to prevent premature product replacement. JELD-WEN warrants its Custom Wood windows and patio doors made with AuraLast components for 20 years against wood decay and termites.
• JELD-WEN’s water-based AuraLast process results in 96 percent fewer VOCs released during production compared to conventional, solvent-based dip treatments typically used in the window industry.
